Excalibur Ibex SMF Crossbow Review

Crossbow Type

Recurve – The Excalibur Ibex SMF uses a recurve bow design that is somewhat uncommon in today’s crossbows, however a recurve design has many advantages over a compound style, one of those being the ability to change the bowstring on the fly and within a few minutes versus a compound crossbow which would most likely require tools and a significant amount of time.

Excalibur Ibex SMF Assembly

Due to the Excalibur Ibex SMF‘s recurve design and the excellent phoenix shooting platform it is built upon, assembly is quite simple and quick, in addition most Ibex SMF packages include an instructional dvd to assist those who need extra assistance.

Excalibur Ibex SMF Features

Multiplex Scope – This scope is included with every Excalibur Ibex SMF and is designed to ensure that Excalibur’s trademark accuracy is showcased on this crossbow, so as one would expect it is very well made. Customer feedback shows that it is very easy to sight in usually taking under five shots even for inexperienced users, it also has yard markings for a variety of ranges and depending on the package may or may not be illuminated. All mounting hardware and tools are included and assembly is simple.

Rope cocking aid – This is Excalibur’s standard issue rope cocker which makes the 175 pound draw weight of the Excalibur Ibex SMF significantly more manageable reducing it to roughly 90 pounds.

4 x Firebolt arrows – Also included in each Ibex SMF package are four of Excalibur’s Firebolt arrows these are surprisingly high quality for “in the box” arrows, made of series 22 carbon these arrows are quite sturdy and are actually ready to hunt with (with broadheads of course), a great value point for the Ibex SMF.

4 arrow quiver – Just your basic 4 arrow holster which mounts underneath the Ibex SMFand is composed a quite sturdy polymer.

Summary

8.9 tech score Dead on is the best way to describe the performance of the Excalibur Ibex SMF, it is constantly called a “price point crossbow” as it delivers performance and quality far above its fairly modest cost. The Ibex SMF is more than capable of downing very large prey, much larger than would be expected from its small profile, it is suitable for stalking or sitting in a stand or hide. The Ibex SMF also boasts that signature Excalibur accuracy which allows it to be pinpoint accurate out to 50 yards, it is so accurate in fact that you should be careful not to aim at the same spot while target shooting as you may very well “Robin Hood” your previously shot arrow and damage it. It also has a very light and smooth trigger pull as well as very low recoil making very capable of being operated by anyone, even a child should you see fit.
